Our Membership Secretary Deb Smith Joins the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Programme

We are delighted that our fantastic Membership Secretary, Deb Smith (Cllr for Podsmead) has been invited to join the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme. Deb is a great voice for the people of our city and her acceptance on the programme is a fantastic recognition of her skills and leadership.

Deb says “I’m really excited to announce that I’ve been accepted on the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Programme. I will be part of the 2nd cohort of women who will benefit from all this excellent training and mentoring the programme has to offer.

This course run by Labour Women’s Network is a great opportunity to benefit from a network of women outside my current sphere. To learn from women from all types of backgrounds and experiences, and to bring that learning back to the women of Gloucester CLP is a fantastic opportunity.

As a member of Gloucester CLP it is a real honour to be chosen to take part, and I’m hoping I am just the first of many!”

What is the Women in Leadership Programme?
In memory of our friend and colleague Jo Cox, Labour Women’s Network and the Labour Party launched the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Programme last year. Jo was an extremely talented MP who championed women in leadership roles, international feminism and representing issues close to her heart. This programme will create a generation of women who can continue Jo’s fight in parliament, local government and in their communities.

What does the leadership programme include?

This round of the programme will run from February 2018-June 2018 and will include:

  • Three national training events delivered by experts from the Labour Women’s Network to develop participants leadership knowledge and skills

  • Structured work with a pair of mentors who will mentor you through the course of the programme. Our mentors will be women who have a record in leadership, helping their communities and winning elections for the Labour party.

  • At the end of the programme successful applicants would have completed a portfolio of work to use in panel interviews and selection processes, as well as networks of support and guidance.

  • The opportunity to build a support network of women from across the country who can support participants in their future endeavours.
